Sustainable Mascara

About 8 years ago, I decided that I would go cruelty free on my purchases. At first, it was difficult, but as the years have gone by, I've grown really accustomed to checking labels to make sure they are in fact cruelty free. It's been a lot easier now as more and more companies are going that route.

Now, 8 years later, I've added a couple more restrictions to that list:

  • Cruelty Free (obviously)

  • No Palm Oil (this has proven to be more difficult than I thought)

  • Limit Plastic / can be recyclable / or packaged free

Mascara is one that was difficult for me to find a replacement that fit the above criteria because:

  1. It's almost always in plastic with no options to recycle when finished

  2. They use a derivative of Palm Oil or use another name that you wouldn't think be Palm Oil, but it is. Want to know the other names Palm Oil goes by? Click here and you can read for yourself!!

Anyhow, this was becoming a bit of a problem because I was running low on my current mascara without a proper replacement until I found this new product:

The Mascara Cake. It's basically a concentrated black "cake" in a tin container that you rub with a little water and it turns it into mascara, eyeliner, and a brow filler. Sounds totally weird, right? Don't know how it works? Well I've done a little tutorial on how to apply it on your eyes... and what else it can be used for. Check it out below!
